Chishanzi

Chishanzi, located at Mengli Village in Niaosong Township , is a small hill in back of Chengcing Lake . In the Ch'ing Dynasty, they built a beacon tower (smoke mound) for warning a war. The bridge at the entrance of Chishanzi crosses through Caogong New Canal , and there are two water gates on the two sides. One is for controlling the branch to Jinshih Lake ; another one is for controlling the main canal to Baqualiao. There is a temple which has a long history on this hill, and it offers sacrifices to General Chen-Yuan who was killed in the event of Zhu Yi-Gui in 1721 during the Ch'ing Dynasty.

“Fengshan Hsien Chih Reediting” recorded of General Chen Yuan: “Chen Yuan who was born in Houguan, was a Qianzong in Zuoying , Taiwan town ship. When Zhu Yi-Gui proposed rebelling, he used guerilla warfare to attack Zhou Ying-Long with right battalion and defended against the army of Zhu Yi-Gui at Gangshan. They resisted courageously preventing Zhu Yi-Gui's army, and then went back to Chishan stationed and guarded. On the second day, Zhu Yi-Gui's army went southerly to beleaguer Chishan and made snares enticing the officers to go deep into. The officers were not familiar with the terrain and invested by Zhu Yi-Gui's army. They fought hardly, but they could not shatter the lines. They was caught with serious injuries and forced to surrender by Zhu Yi-Gui. Chen Yuan did not submit and was killed. After the rebellion, the Court gave him great relief and made his son inherit his situation.”

There is a “History of Dajiang Temple Rebuilding” at the forecourt of the temple. It tells: “Recalling the Kangxi period, 1721, General Chen Yuan was a Qianzong in Zuoying. In summer on April 19th, Zhu Yi-Gui revolted and Chen Yuan overcame in Gangshan, and then Du Jin-Ying also revolted. Chen made a breakthrough Danshui. At this time, the third general officer at Fengshan South Rd. reported an emergency of Zhou's guerilla attack, and Chen led his army to rescue. They marched rapidly from Nanzih to Chishanzi, but Zhu and Du had ambushed. The ways on Chishanzi were full of weeds. All of them fought indiscriminately, and Chen was killed by sickles. The residents were touched by his loyalty and built a temple named “ Dajiang Temple ” for him. Due to the long time and erosion by rain and wind, the temple had collapsed for more than 200 years. In the spring of 1980, General Chen's divinity appeared at “Zhengshantang” in Mengli Village . The inhabitant, CHEN MING ZHAO, put up capital to rebuild the temple. After the temple was done, Chen Ming Zhao's brother-Chen Qing-Shun thought that the appearance was not great, thus, he wanted to expand the rebuilding. Many people was agreed with him and contributed enthusiastically. Chen Cun-Xiong and Chen Xin-Zheng contributed their lands for the temple. In the winter of 1981, they had a ground-breaking ceremony and be finished in 1982. They set the place during 3 to 5 o'clock on October 24 th of the lunar calendar for remembering. Xie Xian-Men wrote on October 1 st of the lunar calendar, 1982.
