Problems and Issues we have discovered :

 a. Trash :
It seems that tourist crowds are always followed by trash. During our field trips over the last six months, I couldn't help to notice the trash piles left behind by tourists; soda cans ranked the most and next were plastic bags. We were pretty disgusted by those irresponsible behaviors. Without prevention and corrective actions to address trash issue, growing trash will overwhelm these beautiful tourist attractions.
  Our Recommendations :

It is imperative to distribute trashcans in tourist attractions. Lids will prevent animals from creating bigger mess. In addition, a uniformed design of trash cans for a given area attraction must be implemented. Managing trash disposal like maintaining artwork, it is important to establish a regular maintenance schedule in order to keep with appearances of surrounding areas. Often, trash management in tourist area was poorly handled and negatively impacted the surrounding environment.
As far as Bat Cave is concerned, it is a popular place for picnic and BBQ and tourists are notorious for poorly handling their trash such as unburned charcoals and BBQ utensils. Unfortunately, government authorities will nee to step in and formulate a plan to keep up with tourist attractions like Bat Cave before further damages are done.

 b. Sewage Management :
Tung-an River runs through Sanmin Village and many families live alongside the riverbank. Unfortunately, we uncovered that these residents were not offered sewage treatment service and their waste was directly feeding into the river. Without a doubt, it has become an alarming issue for the river's ecological environment and needs to be addressed immediately.
  Our recommendation :
A sewage treatment system is required for the area residents to prevent further river pollution. Government authorities shall take charge of monitoring the progress of river improvement and pollution prevention along with residents' moral responsibilities to protect natural resources.

 c. Soil Conservation :
Soil conversion has been a hot topic for mountain areas in recent years. Clearly, lacking trees in the area had caused enormous ground runoffs. Regrettably, environment damages can't be avoided to some degrees. For example, cutting trees to pave roads are causing some degrees of harms to the area water and soil conservation.
  Our recommendations :
During the planning stage for a new tourist attraction, preventive actions shall be included in the development plan to address soil conservation issues. Our expectations are to minimize cutting or damaging existing trees and focus on soil conservation strategies for areas suffering from ground runoffs.

 d. Garbage disposal :
Many Tuba residents are involved in farming and are lacking knowledge for properly handling discarded soil, bamboos, or weeds. Though these types of garbage do not cause major pollution concerns, they do make the surrounding areas unattractive. Occasionally, you might spot discarded tables, chairs, and cabinets by the roadside, an eyesore for the area's overall appearance.
  Our recommendation :
Garbage wastes resulted from farming shall be properly handled and incorporated into our nature environment. For example, cut weeds can be buried underground and bamboos also have a variety of uses such as building materials, burning materials, or tool materials. For furniture pieces no longer in use, contact Township Administrative Office to haul them away or offer reusable furniture pieces to the needed. Even better, after minor makeovers, some can be transformed into art displays for landscaping purposes.
