1.   I have seen a picture before, in which you looked at the old camphor tree. It touched me very much. Can you tell us, what impressed most there?

　　The South-Gate Park. It was by Magistrate Residence. The first is Yilan, all of us and, Limin Elementary School, know that there are not many trees in Yilan city, right? But the trees in Magistrate Residence are tall and big. So, what I remember now are trees, squirrel and fish pond. The houses there are different from ordain civilian houses. They are Japanese style houses. Behind the house, there is a big, tall camphor tree, can not be circle around with two men hand in hand. You may not feel so if you see it from afar, but you just could not hold it around. When I went home at that time, I glanced it always. The tree is that big and it would be a pity to chop it down. The tree must be over a hundred years old, and the buildings are 70/80 years old the least. The tree must have been pretty old when planted to place, so it could have been 100 years old. It grows very well. Originally, the County Government planned to chop it down and demolish the houses and turn the piece of land into residential / commercial mixed area. I feel it would be a waste. So, if you ask me what impresses me the most, I would say, the trees, squirrel , houses and the fish pond. I had many carp placed in the pond. Are they still there? If you go into Lotung Sports Park, there is a lake, and there are carps, in red, yellow. The first lot of immigrants were from the Magistrate Residence, about 200 / 300. The number may have been increased, but I remember, the original lot is about 200. These are my impression. Top

2.   Are you optimistic toward the development of the South-Gate Park, or is there anything get you worry?

　　The South-Gate Park is in fact located at the south side of Yilan old city. There have been County Government building, dormitory, prison, oh, there was also the brewery. The place is quite wide. The Country Government was going to tear them down and turn it into residential and commercial areas. But why? It was because the County Government was short of funds, so that we could do something more for the County. But later, we changed our plan, such as keeping the Magistrate Residence. I was rather optimistic. Some of the land would eventually turned into commercial area, so would be sold, but some should be kept. For example, it should be okay to keep brewery, the older one like the prison, Residence of Magistrate, Residence of principal of agriculture school and the residence of secretary general could be kept. I remember the green of the park was sliced in an inclined line, trying to retain the 3 buildings. It was for retaining the old building as this would enable the retention of relics there. It have been years I have not gone back there, I don’t know for sure, but the Administration Founding Memorial Hall, Residence of Magistrate and the residences of principal of agriculture school and secretary general have been kept. The trees are retained. I am quite optimistic about them. Top

3.   What do you think our school boys and girls can do for the South-Gate Park?

4.   What sort of inspiration the management of the South-Gate Park of County Government would bring to our students?

　　I do not know how they are running it now, but I have been in the Administration Founding Memorial Hall two years ago. I found that the interpreters are very devoting and it was very clean. I went there on holiday, and I found many high school student writing there report. I asked why they came on holiday, while they should have been preparing for university examination. They told me that their school required them to submit report about Administration Founding Memorial Hall. I noticed that the schools in Yilan is quite advanced that they want student to know more about the history of Yilan. Though the Magistrate Residence was built in the Japanese Ruling Years, but most of Magistrates were staying there and many important meeting was held there and many important decisions about Yilan were made there. It is a very important place. The County Government is now placing emphasis on history, the land and sustained development. I hope you would be able to learn something from the policy of County Government. Top

5.   What is your expectation on the future of the South-Gate Park?

　　The South-Gate Park is important because it has specific features on one hand and on the other hand, considering the whole Yilan City as whole, Yilan City is the largest city of Yilan area, its development is very important. There were County Government, County Council, also there are Youth Corpse, Prison, DA office, Court and Retser, i.e. Forest Development Administration, and many government owned  establishment are all located in Yilan City. Such make a part of Yilan City without street light in the night, without business activities. This is no good for the development of Yilan City. So we relocated County Government, also the court, DA office and the prison and left a piece of land. If we make good plan of it, like what we have in the South-Gate Park, keep what are kept, it will match culture with commerce and let Yilan City not just commerce or public services. Let the public servants and education employees staying there, it will match culture with business and uplift the development of Yilan City. If we have the performance hall built, and Ehrlin Market and Brewery were transformed, Then there should be an even larger performance hall, or, conference center. When all this is completed, the old city of Yilan City will be revitalized with the construction of the South-Gate Park. And, this is call Urban Renovation, the future development will be much better in the future. Top

6.What is your ordinary leisure activity?

　　Leisure activities?! I jog on jogging machine, watch movie, watch movie “ Green Giant with my children and my wife. Recently, I use mobile to take photos frequently. Come on, let me take a picture of you! Kak. ET NEWS Live.
