For this event, numerous university students were gathered together to be Digital Light Spot(s) to work with Aboriginal youngsters in improving their computer skills. With luck, some of the young gentlemen taking part in the Fifth Taiwan Schools Cyberfair will produce a new tribal legend, and turn out a new generation of “Little Digital Heroes”.

Persian Cat Counseling Club, National Hualien Teachers’ College has been an important part of Hualien area grade schools and its community for some time now, especially in helping the grade school students up in the mountainous and more remote regions. However, with the time allowed for interaction with the students limited to winter and summer vacations, there was barely enough time to move forward with more in-depth studies with the youngsters. We longed for closer contact with Aborigine culture and we were fortunately blessed with this fresh opportunity to experience the Bunun Aborigine Tribe Village. Needless to say, we took on this program without a hint of hesitation.

After taking on this program, the next thing we had to do was get in touch with the right school in which we could implement our instructional program. As we had not previously worked with the youth of Bunun, we put in extra time and effort to better understand the Bunyn tribe, and our efforts led to our choosing Ma Yuan Elementary School, a school in the central mountainous area of Hualien, for this program.
