¡@ Fuyou temple is located under the Cizaiding. It is dedicated to Matsu. It is also known as Matsu Temple. Those Han immigrants from Fuchien built this temple in 1796, the first year of the period of the Emperor Chia Ching at the Ching Dynasty. It is also dedicated to The Holy Female Deity, which is accompanied by Guanyin and Shueisian Honor King by her side. Fuyou Temple is the oldest temple ever existed in Taiwan. It is the third-grade historic spot. There is a tablet ¡u Yi Tian Jhao You ¡v hanging on the main hall which was awarded by the emperor Guang Syu for the merit in the Chinese-French War.

¡i Deep Exploration ¡j

¡@ There is a ¡u Wanggao stela ¡v¡] The phrase ¡§Wanggao¡¨ means look-far ¡^ inlayed on the left wall by entering the temple. The executive leader said that the Wanggao Building was built in 1796, and was the first lighthouse runned by local people. Formerly, at the outlet of Tamsui River the coral reef would revealed as the tide ebbed, and some fishing boats would misrecognised those reefs as the port and ran into them. Then the local people were decided to build the Wanggao Building to instruct the way. And the stele was set at that time. The inscription is also telling the living style of the Tamsui people two hundred years ago. It is a history-worthy stele; some of the inscriptions are fuzzy.

Wanggao Building was ruined because of the ages. The Japanese army used its stone material to build their fort while they were ruling Taiwan. The Wanggao Building vanished from the history then. There is only the stele left to prove that the Wanggao Building existed before.

The Wanggao Building was destroyed, so the Fuyou temple set a Wanggao Building stele in memory of it. The inscription has told the trade mode at that time.

¡@ The door-gods of Fuyou Temple are different from others. They are a eunuch at the left, a lady-in-waiting at the right. The temple colored drawing artist, Mr. Jhuang, Wu-Nan, said that different deity has different grade. The Holy Mother is equal to a queen, so there are eunuch and lady-in-waiting to wait on. This door-god is also the work of Mr. Jhuang, Wu-Nan.

¡@ Fu-yo temple is located on the Zhong-zheng Road,face to face with the Zhong-zheng market. Almost everyone knows the location of Fu-yo temple.

¡@¡@ Fuyou Temple is the belief center of the immigants from Cyuan Jhou. It has been said that Fuyou Temple was built in 1732. But the wooden couplet has shown that it was built in 1782.


The Hans had set a village around Fuyou Temple when they just arrived Taiwan.

¡@¡@ The Tamsui market street is start from Fuyou Temple and then developed an extent of town around the Chongjian Street, Cingashuei Street and Jhongjheng Rd. The port in front of Fuyou Temple was where the Hans first went on shore. The land of Jhongjheng Rd. and the Jhongjheng market across the temple were belong to the Fuyou Temple. There was a plan to torn down the market and return to the vacant lot before, then the Temple could sit face to face with the Guanyin Mountain. But because of some mistakes of the administrative procedure, the plan was not realized.

¡@¡@ Inside the Fuyou Temple, the atmosphere is solemn and respectful. This temple is always popular. We saw the stele that awarded by the emperor Guang Syu hanging in the middle of the main hall. It has been smoked to be black. Smell like history!

¡@¡@ Fuyou Temple has been through many times of repairing to be the appearance we saw today. It's the national third-grade historic spot.
