Community interviews

Interview the persons who deserve to be mentioned

During the months of research, we interviewed Senator Chiang and Doctor Gan; the stories and information they provided have helped us to better understand the changes in Rikavong and stories of Rikavong.

  Interesting things during the interviews

All team members are elementary school students, and people they have regular contact with are their parents, relatives, neighbors, or friends. One of their missions is to introduce Cyberfair and explain the objective of interview to their acquaintance ( interview skills are practiced in advance).

Group interviews were arranged by Chian-hui and Yi-wen via telephone or in person; personal interviews were arranged by individual members via telephone or in person. Some interviewers were introduced to them by their parents, neighbors, or friends.

Since territory of tribes is not sizable, students made visits on foot or bikes, unless of emergency situations. For the first interview with Senator Chiang, it took Mr. Ma a few rides to drive all the students over.

It was easy to set a time with Doctor Gan, but it was difficult to set a time with Senator Chiang because he was on a tight schedule.

Chian-hui and Yi-wen once arranged an appointment with Senator Chiang, but Senator Chiang was tight up in public service and could not meet with them. So Mr. Ma decided to take us out for field research.

Unfortunately, our photographer Hsin-ju accidentally deleted all the photos in the digital camera. So Mr. Ma asked us to visit Senator Chiang again. We had to arrange another appointment with Senator Chiang, and had the chance to hear more about tribal rituals.

We would also like to acknowledge all those who have offered help during the course of research.

Interview by Chian-hui and YI-wen.
