Traditional art crafts

School curriculum that is related to tribal culture

Through school lessons (official curriculum) and our spare time, we learned a few traditional art crafts as follows.

more

Cross Embroidery

Cross embroidery is the most artistic and famous handicraft of Puyuma. (Official school curriculum)

Traditional Dance and Folksong

Traditional dance and folksong were not included in school curriculum, but the students were able to learn the dance from other tribal members.

Pottery

The school is equipped with one ceramics studio, one electric kiln, one coal kiln, two electric pulley tackle, and plenty of materials for students.

Traditional Cooking

The most favored topic in Traditional Cooking: Abai (glutinous rice tamale), bamboo stick rice, 'dang' rat (to catch rats)

Floral Loop

The best floral loop maker: Chian-hui. We all went to Chian-hui's house to cram floral loop making at the night before Forest Elementary School students' visit.

Chian-hui and Yi-wen were teachers in 'creative floral loop' event in obstacle courses for Forest Elementary School students.

  Cross Embroidery

Cross Embroidery is a required course to third to sixth grade students. Weekend class and parent class are held as well. (Lijia Primary School). We all learned cross embroidery when we were in third or fourth grade.

The key of cross embroidery is at patience and carefulness. These are our works. (Lijia Primary School)

The parents invited cross embroidery specialist of the tribe to teach us techniques, methods, and patterns of cross embroidery after class. These are pictures taken during the class.
