The development of Kazakalan

Kazakalan was an old tribe of Katipol

Puyuma dominated Eastern and Southern Taiwan from Kazakalan. The birth of Rikavong was closely related to the development of Kazakalan. One version of the legend tells: When Banholian, the second son of Sihasihau' was sent to the North for tribute collection, he often brought his daughters Sinaihan and Moakai along. Sinaihan and Moakai later built the midway hut into a permanent residence. They were the first ancestors of Rikavong.

A few critical conclusions about the period of development of Kazakalan are reached by historians:

  • It was taken place in Stone Ages.

  • Men went hunting for production.

  • The hunting area expanded to the hilltop of Kazakalan where the entire Taitung plain was in one glance.

  • Paternal control over family ( or tribal) rituals.

  • Main tools used were arrow and bow, and sedan chair.

  • Another mean of production was fishing.

  • Kazakalan and establishment of 'Daligaligayan' tribute collection center of 'Ouduoudugaan'

  • Collected tribute from Amei, Puyuma, and Hengchun natives on Taitung plain

  • The power and prosperity of Kazakalan is a result of its training camp, age class, and other political systems.
