¡@ Before Holland occupied Taiwan Changhua was deserted and desolated.The people of Pingpu tribe lived in Changhua and sustained themselves by fishing.The sika deers in the wild grass were their assets.They had the habit of moving around from place to place,therefore,they didn't believe that particular land belonged to them.They lived in groups of ten or more families together in one village.They called the village a "Sheh"(organized bodies).
¡@ In 1557,Portuguese people came from Portugal to Taiwan on a ship,and called Taiwan "Era Formosa" meaning that Taiwan is a beautiful island.In 1624 Dutch people from Holland came to Taiwan and started to rule Taiwan for the next 38 years.The Dutch began to export cleer skins,rice and sugar to other countries.The Dutch reestablish Changhua as a new adminstration district called "Wa Bu Lan".After Holland occupced Taiwan,Pingpu tribe and Holland had a short war.Immigrants from China helped the Pingpu tribe fight against Holland.Until 1641,Holland fought Changhua with a big and great army.On October 26th,the Pingpu tribe surrendered to the Holland army.
¡@ During the time,that Holland ruled Changhua the Christianity and started to be spreaded in Changhua and the Bible was written named Wabooblan.And taught the Pingpu tribe how to use the alphabet to spelling their mother language.During Holland ruling of Changhua for 17 years,the people of Pingpu tribe were seldom against the Holland ruling.
¡@ In 1961,Koxinga forced the Dutch from Holland to leave Taiwan and regain Taiwan and ruled Taiwan for the next 23 years.In December,he renamed Taiwan to be "Tungdu" and established two counties named "Wannien" and "Tienhsing". Changhua belonged to Tienhsing country.Koxinga and Chung-jing went to inspect Changhua.After Min dynasty Koxinga occupied Taiwan.Taiwan was regarded as a place for Min dynasty to fight against Ching dynasty.Min dynasty Koxinga government assigned the army to begin and establish farming in Changhua.In the Bargwa mountain there is "the tomb of Koxinga".It is the relice from that time.Changhua didn't receive much attention,solit developed slowly.So no records were kept.The people of Pingpu tribe in Changhua were decreasing in those days.
¡@ Most immigtrants from the Mainland to Changhua were through Lukang and Erlin. Shihu district was covered with lakes and swamps at the time. In Ming Dynasty Shihu was the initial stage of developing. In 1586, Ma I-Hsiung and Chou Yu-Sen from Kuangdong the Mainland arrived in Hopolun of Sankuaitsuo(one place of Shihu) picking lotus roots and leaving the bag of in cense from their hometown temple. The next year, they began to build the temple Chao-Lin Kung.Hopolun was the new name of the place called by Han people. In 1683, Cheng Ke-Shuang surrendered to Chin Dynasty and established one and three counties.
